...From Anna

Heeeeey IPOMers...

Yes my letter is late again.... Not much has been going on this month.... I've mostly been working on my FMAB project, and posting at the Megadeth Fans Unite and Warmachine boards (I'll talk about Warmachine, a great, hopefully soon to be signed band... next letter!).

Things should get busier in my IPOM land, FMAB land, and Annaleigh land pretty soon.

Metallica has picked up speed, we have the debut of the new song, and my happiness about that, though pretty immense, all pales in comparison to just how fucking overjoyed I am to see James Hetfield healthy and happy. I don't think I've disclosed this on the IPOM Boards, or in my letters to you all, but in a way I see James Hetfield as a father figure. He just reminds me of my dad (in a lot of endearing ways), who passed on in 1994. They share the same Achillies heel, alcohol addiction, and seeing James come to the point where he really needed help just as desprately as my dad needed it, hurt like hell, and I actually went through a depression. I needed therapy at the time... (which I guess sounds silly), but the whole thing forced me to go over the dad issues again. One of them being that my dad got sober because he got terminal cancer, but he never got help for the issues that went with his addiction, and that really burns me. So, I can't say enough how ecstatic I am that James has gotten the help he needs, is working on his stuff, and looks and seems to be so much happier. That means a helluva lot to me.

In FMAB land, I am, hopefully, when I get a moment, going to put some "final" touches on a section devoted to Asian Americans as metalheads, and within their culture. I have links, hate crime stats, a section on popular 19th and early 20th century stereotypes of Asians, and one section, starting out small, where Asian American metalheads can talk about being both Asian & a metalhead, what their culture is like, their experiences with racism are, whatever. I'm also working on a new charter for the project, because I've experienced some anal metalheads who object to it seems, every word in the name Female Metalheads Against Bigotry. I've had to explain half the name already quite a few times. Maybe if I go PC and change it to Male Identified and Female Indentifed Music Consumers Not Supporting People Who Don't Like Other People, they'll let it go, eh?

In Annaleigh land, I have been pooped these last few days. I started my cultural anthropology class, have been babysitting at 2 AM the last couple nights. I have been buried in feminist literature. If you find it interesting, read Manifesta: Young Women, Feminism, and the Future. It puts modern feminism (ie not 70's feminism) into perspective. I am in the works of starting an ezine of my own when I have the time...., Working title is Smart Ass Grrl, and would cover politics, feminism, activism, the social sciences, and retardedly fun shit. Oh yes, and I've become a soccer fan.

Ok, will leave you with vibe list now!

Love,
Annaleigh
