Heya folks! Wow, it's been a busy two months. January was a bit busy work-wise, but February was packed. I had SCALE (the Southern California Linux Expo), which is a large conference I'm involved with. That was an entire Friday - Sunday gone. But it was a lot of fun. In addition to seeing some old friends, some spectacular talks from some brilliant people, I also got to have drinks with some of those brilliant people. Interesting things ensue when you get a bunch of geeks in a bar. ;) Of course, since its February, there was also Valentine's Day celebrations to be had. This year was a low-key dinner, movie, order-in-Chinese food Valentines. Which was nice. Since V-day weekend was the same weekend as SCALE, planning time was not available. And, directly following Valentine's Day is Lynn's birthday. Since V-day was small, I went a little overboard for her birthday. I took her to The Palm for an incredible dinner, got her some DVDs and a book, and took her to lunch by the beach the next afternoon when we woke up. Following that, a friend of mine got rather sick, so while he's been in the hospital, I've been trying to help out his wife with some household stuff on the weekends. However, despite all of that, I have put a lot of work into re-writing the backend to IPOM.com. What prompted a re-write? Well, slowly, bit by bit, we've been revamping all or our sections, as you may have noticed. And while that revamp is moving to a good design and model, the actual code-base implimenting it was rather old and not done well. So while doing the next section, I finally got pissed off enough and re-wrote it. It means the new section is taking some more time, but I assure you it will be worth it. The new section won't look much different than other revamped sections, however, it should be a lot faster, have a more consistent look and allow me to revamp other sections much more quickly. What else? Oh - I want to say a huge thanks to Anna for the work she's done on the new section... she's taken on the brunt of the non-technical work. Lana has also been a big help. Until next month... Phil |
