Why didn't I have a letter last month? I was in China! Yeaup, that's right. But Phil, you ask, what the fuck were you doing in China? I spent 10 days in Shanghai for work. It was amazing! It's definitely a different place all together. I won't speak too much to it as I'll have a full review up in the next week or so, and I'll post a link in my December letter. On a Metallica note, Bridge School Benefit was fucking amazing! Its one of those concerts you get out of and go "woah, did that really just happen?" I mean, before we even get to Metallica, we got to see Jerry Lee Lewis perform Great Balls of Fire! That's a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Damn that guy can still play. Tom Waits also kicked some serious ass! Metallica, of course, cleaned up! Metallica playing funk was mind-blowing. And they fucking covered Garbage! Garbage! Who would have ever seen that one coming? And they really blew that song away! The accoustic versions of Disposable Heroes and All Within My Hands were fucking insane! And of course, Unforgiven was a true treat. Full review to come. In other music news, I recently saw Nightwish who put on an amazing show! If you haven't heard their music, check out a few of their videos on youtube. Last night, I saw Evanescence in their 2007 tour (do bands other than Metallica not name their tours?). Fresh off the Family Values tour, they were ready to break the "festival" mode and really do their own thing. This was truly one of the best shows I've ever seen (next to Metallica, of course). I saw Evanescence a few years back and they kicked ass, but they've stepped it up even more. Amy continues to pour everything she has into every song, and it's just awe-inspiring. They also slowed down and distortioned up quite a few of their songs, really adding a metal crunch that kicked some serious ass. Well, that's all I got for now. 'Til December! Phil |
