Review: This 2-record set was recorded at the Felt Forum in NYC, December 1, 1986. This is one of, if not Jason's first United States show on the actual Puppets tour (not counting the first 2 shows he did in November '86 in California). The source is either a poorly mixed soundboard or the best audience recording I've ever heard, either way it's got quite good sound to it.
The record starts off in an unusual way, as James comes out and warns the crowd to not rip up seats or damage the Forum in any way, or else they'll have to stop the show. I'm guessing that no one did rip up too many seats after all, because this record includes a double encore consisting of great versions of both "Fight Fire With Fire" and "Blitzkrieg."
The crowd was really into it that night; in "Whiplash" they're almost singing louder than Hetfield (they even got the Captain Kirk ad-lib), and the band plays with remarkable energy. Hell, all the songs are faster here than the studio versions.
One of the most unique things about this boot is that it doesn't say Metallica anywhere on it. Not even the record itself. Matter of fact the actual records don't even have the record title. That's okay, my "...Live For All" bootleg has the wrong band (SOD) on the records themselves. The front cover of "Assassin" is a slutty lookin' chick named Adriana, holding a gun with the handle going down to her scantily clad crotch. The back is a photo of Metallica from the Lightning era.
I know this bootleg was pressed a number of times, I believe all printings were limited to 500 a piece. The first 25 of this printing came boxed with a shirt, but my copy doesn't have one, so I can't tell you what the shirt looks like.
This set used to be popular, but since the government cracked down on bootlegs about 3 years ago, almost everything is hard to come by these days. When I bought "Assassin" the going price was about $20-30, but now I'd say that you wouldn't be getting ripped off if you paid around $50 for it. Part of this show can be found on the CD "Angels From Hell" which is also decreasing in availability.
I'd highly recommend the Metallica fan to pick this up; well worth looking for.
