IPOM Contests
NOTE: This contest is over, this is an archived page.
Welcome to the Contest section of IPOM. Here you will find contests in which you can win prizes!
Contest #16
As many of you saw, we recently did a massive overhaul of our Tour Acrhive. In particular we now track venues that have changed names but are the same physical venue.
But the world is a big place and there are certainly plenty we probably missed. That's where this contest comes in! You can help make the database even better and win cool stuff at the same time.
Have a venue in your town that has changed names? Check to make sure we know they're the same venue! For every rename you submit we don't know about you'll earn an entry in the drawing.
We have two prizes so enter often!
How To Enter
You can enter two ways: find a venue rename we don't know about, or find a show with an incorrect venue. So how so you find these?
Let's start with venue renames, those are the easiest to look for. Navigate - by year or tour or search - to a show in your town. You can click on the city name and see all the shows in that city. Now click on the venue name of a venue that has been renamed - do shows that were in that venue under another name show up? If so, we already know about that rename. If not, then you found one!
One thing to note: the band must have played at the venue under the name for the entry to count. So if a venue has had 5 names: A Stadium, B Stadium, C Stadium, D Stadium, and E Stadium, but Metallica only played there under the names B Stadium, D Stadium, and E Stadium, then when you click on any of those the shows for all 3 should show up. If they don't, you get an entry! We will award additional entries for each missing association. So in the example above if we didn't know any of those 3 were the same, you'd get 2 entry. If we knew 2 were the same but not the 3rd you'd get one entry.
For incorrect venues - click on a city you know, look at the venues, if you think something is wrong, try to find what the correct venue was.
It's important to know entries must contain proof of their claime. Proof of a venue rename might be a Wikipedia article about the venue - they usually list all historical names. Proof of an incorrect venue might be a picture of a ticket or flier from the show, an article about the show, etc. The cover art of a bootleg of a show is not considered strong proof.
Some great resources we can recommend: the Wikipedia pages for venues (just Google the name of the venue and chose the Wikipedia link), the Wikipedia page for a given Metallica tour (Google for the tour and Wikipedia), MetPage has tons of picture of tickets and fliers from shows, and Googleing the date (in YYYY-MM-DD format) with "Metallica" and the city name will often bring surprisingly useful results as well.
Winners will be picked in a random drawing. To submit setlists or reviews, simply email them to us.
