Note that this concert was part of a larger trip, whose details and pictures you can find here.

Got to the show, dropped my sweater off in Jeff's office, and headed out. Got there earlier than I intended and The Sword was still playing. For their last song Lars played with them, so I was glad I was there! Machine Head mentioned it was their last show (which wasn't true, they were in Germany) and their guitarist's birthday. Rob, Machine Head's lead singer, not only talked about how much better tonight was than last night. A pattern was emerging, apparently every audience kicks the shit out of the previous audience for him.

Metallica played an unbelievable show. We got Horsemen, Holier, Apocalypse, Bleeding, Nightmare, FFWF, and then just when you didn't think it could get any better - they invited Biff Byford, lead singer of Saxon up and played Motorcycle Man!! Holy crap! Yet another first! Bleed and Horse are some of my favorite live songs, and it's always great to see something from the Load-twins era (which is always underrepresented in the sets). Add to that Nightmare and Apocalypse and a guest and it was just blissful!

I headed in at the end of Seek and grabbed my stuff, waited around for Jeff to say good bye and headed out quickly to try to catch the trains before they got too full.
